Walloping Window Blind

Author: words - Charles E Carroll, tune

Source: childhood

Notes: This is a favorite song from my childhood. Back in 1870 the prolific English songwriter Joseph Geoghegan wrote “10,000 Miles Away.” Fourteen years later it was so popular that these lovely spoof lyrics, published in a children’s novel (“Davy and the Goblin” published serially in “St. Nicholas” magazine 1884-5), were easily recognizable. Amongst the dozens of songs Joseph Geoghegan (pronounced Gay-gun) composed were 'Down in a Coal Mine', 'John Barleycorn', Johnny I Hardly Knew You', 'Ten Thousand Miles Away' and 'When Johnny Comes Marching Home'.
