Other Performers:
"Judy Cook is one of the finest exponents of ballad
singing that the current American folk music revival has produced. Her
depth of understanding and story-telling ability in ballad form is rivaled only
by her dedication to the music and her willingness to do her research.
But all that aside - I'd go and listen to her anytime and anywhere."
---- Lou Killen
"There are, perhaps, few singers
that share my joy and love of singing unaccompanied ballads and songs. Judy
Cook is certainly one of them. She does it with honesty, warmth and
understanding of the song. Right up front with no affectation she just opens up
and tells the story."
---- Sara Grey
"Judy's the Real Thing. With Capital Letters."
---- Peggy Seeger
"I'm always delighted when Judy and I cross paths, because I
know I'll hear some little gems of songs I've never heard before, brought to
life by someone who clearly loves finding them, singing them, and sharing
them."
---- Cindy Mangsen

Venue Operators:
"Judy Cook brought to the 'top room' a splendid selection of
unaccompanied ballads and songs from a huge and varied repertoire mainly coming
from the Eastern United States. Powerful variants of Scots ballads such
as 'Hind Horn' and 'Earl Brand' dovetailing effortlessly with American
narratives such as 'Harriet Tubman' as well as sprinklings of whimsical pieces
and spiritual anthems. Judy's command of each song and her relaxed and
personal stage presence won over the audience from the first - it is little
wonder that such 'luminaries' as Peggy Seeger and Louis Killen are just as
'rapt' as we all were this evening with Judy's most wonderful sets. Her
presentation and delivery of texts are a great example to any singer. Her
joy of singing was amply illustrated in a number of sparkling duets with
husband Dennis who also showed from his floor spot what a fine singer he
is. Again this evening brought us much joy - our thanks to Judy Cook."
---- Traditions at the Tiger, Autumn 2000 Newsletter
"Judy Cook performed to an audience of approximately 200 residents and visitors at Kendal
at Oberlin, a continuing care retirement community in October 1998.
Kendal at Oberlin is located just a few blocks from Oberlin College and the Conservatory
of Music. Residents have the opportunity to hear musicians on a regular
basis because of the close proximity to the College. However, after
Judy’s performance, a number of comments could be heard throughout the room
about her outstanding, uplifting, and spirited performance.
Comments like, “such a unique style”; “never had so much fun
at a concert”; “she sure knows her history,” were a few of the comments shared
about her performance.
Judy has a way of captivating her audience, allowing them to
forget themselves in the present and fondly remembering the past. Her
good-natured, kindhearted, and caring personality add to her performance
leaving people with a sense of joy and warmth."
